American Appaloosa Anthology,  book by Palmer J. Wagner.  "This publication of 708 pages contains an analysis of 100 breeder's programs with 600 photographs." This book is still in print follow the above link to learn more about this book and it's writer.



Streamsong Appaloosa horse books out of print. This is a site to watch for those rare books and magazines!



 Know the Appaloosa by Lee Arlandson this is out of print so look on E-bay or at amazon.com or Streamsong (we found our copy there) This book covers bloodlines many good photo's with labels stating who the horse and rider are.



     SPOTTED PRIDE --The Appaloosa Heritage Series by Frank Holmes Features the stories of 25 of the breed's greatest foundation horses, as told by the pioneering men and women who knew them best. released 2003.



 The Story of the Ghost Wind Stallions by Don LaLonde  This book is still in print so can be bought at most any book deal. Tells the story of the Ghost Wind Stallions.



The Complete Appaloosa Horse by Jan Davis This book goes into the history of difernt horses, many good photo's clearly marked with who the photo is of. you can order your copy directly from Jan Davis from this link



The Complete book of the Appaloosa by Jan Haddle this book has lots of information and photo's on the founding appaloosa horses. This book is out of print and VERY hard to find (usually goes for a lot of money) so keep your eye open at E-bay or Amazon.com



The Nez Perces: Tribesman of the Columbia Plateau by Dr. Francis Haines tells you about the Nez Perces Indians and their horses - the appaloosa. very interesting reading - paperback edition still in print 



The Appaloosa by Bill Richardson: A book that documents the early days (1940's) of this breed. Has photo's of the founding appaloosas. This book is out of print. 


   Fifty Years of Appaloosa History chronicles the development of the organization that did it all. The history of the Appaloosa Horse Club is as colorful as the horse it represents, and the author, Edith Stanger, has been through it all, from the earliest years to the present.

by Francis Haines

 Francis Haines was a PHD and professor of history who became the official historian for the Appaloosa Horse Club in its early days. This is a general work, tracing America's horses from the days of the Spanish conquerors and the spectacular Plains Indians who got horses from the Spaniards long before the arrivals of the settlers from the East. After tracing the origins of horse culture in Europe and Asia, the author tells the story of the horse in the New World and its important role in the exploration of a continent and the building of a nation.
